What are Flip Flops & What are their Types || FinallyGot

Flip flop is an important basic memory element for digital circuit. Flip-flop is designed by assembling different logic gates. Single logic gate does not have any information storing capacity but by combining different such gates one can make such a digital circuit which can store digital information.

Flip flop is such circuit.
There are different types of flip flop with different characteristics for different application. Flip-flop is the basic building blocks of most sequential circuits. Flip-flop (FF), is also known as a bistable multivibrator, because it has two stable states.

It can remain in either of the states indefinitely. Its state can be changed by applying the proper triggering signal. Flip flop is one-bit memory element.

Clocked RS Flip Flop:

The RS latch flip flop required the direct input but no clock. It is very useful to add clock to control precisely the time at which the flip flop changes the state of its output. In the clocked R-S flip flop the appropriate levels applied to their inputs are blocked till the receipt of a pulse from another source called c lock. The flip flop changes state only when clock pulse is applied depending upon the inputs. This circuit shown below is formed by adding two AND gates at inputs to the R-S flip flop. In addition to control inputs Set (S) and Reset (R), there is a clock input (C) also.
